Bit of Coral

A bit of coral and many small shells balance against each other and almost seem to float, yet all are anchored by the Giant Heart Cockle.

Blue Shell

I call this painting the blue shell because of the small shell nestled inside the larger one—the shadows making it appear blue.

White Shell

I've been working on this painting and like the added shadows that make it more dimensional.

The big news is that I have giclees on canvas of three paintings and prints on paper of each of them for sale at a store in Venice, Florida that specializes in all things about the sea called Sirene. I hope you and your friends can go and check them out!

This large painting of shell hash started this series of shell paintings. It measures 36 x 48. I take loads of photos of the shells that wash up on shore, using the parts that I find the most interesting.

Tiny Shells

Working on a triptych is a bit of a challenge because you are really painting three canvasses at the same time using the same colors to make it all one image. I like the use of lacy foam rushing onto the shore across the tops of the paintings.

This painting took a long time to paint. I lost count of the number of shells in it. I based it on the photo of shell hash I showed a while ago, but always changing shells, adding shells to make the composition more interesting.
I've also had four paintings photographed to print giclees. I'm getting into a whole new realm of possibilities!

By the Sea

I've been busy with book work this last month, but I also managed to squeeze in some time for a new painting. I took so many photos of shells last month while I had a chance to be at the beach almost every day. I can't wait to paint more!

Winter Beach

I like to go out with my camera early in the morning to take photos—never knowing what I will see. When I'm back in the studio and look through them,  I always find something that inspires me. I love the soft waves overlapping, touching the shore. It's so peaceful.

Sea Stars Catch a Wave

You won't find sea stars like this on Nokomis beach, but they were the inspiration for this painting. (24 x 30 inches)

Broken Shell

I love this broken sea shell. I've painted it at least four times and no matter which way it's turned, there's something exciting in its edges and curves.
You won't find white coral on a Florida beach, but I love the texture of it juxtaposed to the smaller, smooth white shells. 24 x 30 inches.

Shell Hash

How exciting to be able to show you some of my latest paintings. The new series is all about "shell hash". I walk along the shore and take photos of the piles of hash in the sand. I don't paint them exactly as they appear in the photos, however. I edit and select shells that I like and combine them into a composition. This painting is quite large at 36 x 48. The colors are more subtle that what you see here. Enjoy!
